Under a full moon on a Saturday night in downtown Nashville, a night that truly had Music City rocking with a Taylor Swift concert across the river at Nissan Stadium, Def Leppard and Journey playing Bridgestone Arena and Garth Brooks returning to the Grand Ole Opry stage, South Carolina rock band NEEDTOBREATHE stepped on stage shortly after 9 pm before a sold-out crowd at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater.
When NEEDTOBREATHE took the stage with “Devil’s Been Talkin’,” it brought the crowd of 6,800 to their feet.
Lead singer Bear Rinehart noted a few songs in, “This town used to scare me… especially on nights like tonight, but thanks to you, it doesn’t anymore.”
The rest of the night continued with high-energy hits like “The Outsiders” and GRAMMY-nominated “Brother,” which saw Bear and Bo Rinehart facing off at the top of the stage playing back and forth to each other. The band took a break half-way through the set to play a few stripped-down acoustic songs before ramping up the energy again by bringing out JOHNNYSWIM for their collaboration, “Forever On Your Side.”
The two-hour set was a blur of lights, animation and special effects—proving this tour to be the biggest production of the band’s career.
To end the night in Music City, NEEDTOBREATHE brought out special guest and one of Nashville’s own, Judah & the Lion, to perform the band’s song “Take It All Back.”
The show opened with singer/songwriter Billy Raffoul, followed by Los Angeles-based folk duo JOHNNYSWIM, who brought out Americana artist and Nashville local, Drew Holcomb, for their upbeat hit “Ring the Bells.”
