Fifty years since first stepping foot on stage at the Mother Church as a member of the Staples Singers in 1969, gospel great Mavis Staples returned to her hallowed stage Wednesday, May 15, 2019, for a show featuring special guests, friends and admirers to not only celebrate her birthday but also her life's music.
Staples' appearance at the Ryman is one-of-only-three "Mavis & Friends" birthday celebration concerts (New York, Nashville and Los Angeles) across the country, all benefitting the Newport Festivals Foundation.
